Half an hour away from Geneva and back in France, we visited the medieval city of Yvoire. As you can see from the picture at the bottom, it is a small village filled with medieval buildings and flowers which makes it a very pleasant place to visit.
The village is also by a body of water so there is a nice breeze (and in our case even a bit of rain). I suggest you bring one or two umbrellas if you visit. A castle can also be seen from the waterfront. We didn’t get to visit it and I saw somewhere that it was a private residence.
As mentioned, the village is filled with flower decorations especially in the summer so it is really pretty to see. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are also a lot of tourist shops perfect for this, along with some more artisan shops. I saw a cheese shop, another selling embroidery and another selling bracelets and jewelery. Two or three hours is enough to go around the village and do some shopping if you want some souvenirs.
