When we arrived in Chamonix, in the fog and the rain, we went straight to Hôtel Alpina, our hotel for our stay. I have seen more beautiful hotel before but since we were mostly here for sleeping, it fitted our needs very nicely. The hotel was nicely situated and not too far from the tourist shops of Chamonix.
My favorite part of this hotel however was the restaurant. Situated at the top floor of the hotel, we got a splendid view of the city and the mountains. Or at least what we could see through the clouds. I was also a big fan of the rich red used for their decorations and on their tables. Mixed with black chairs and the wooden roof, it made the interior feel warm and inviting.
I also found the food to be excellent. We ordered two cheese fondues for the 5 of us and it was plenty of food. I could actually feel the white wine mixed with the cheese after dipping a piece of bread in it and putting it in my mouth. Yummy! It was especially delicious as it was raining and cold outside so it warmed us up very nicely. In case you don’t know the game, if you lose your bread in the cheese, you have to do a dare. I lost quite a few but I did it quietly so nobody noticed. 🙂
The service was also excellent. The servers were pleasant and helped us out quite a few time especially after we set fire to the wooden platform underneath the pot. We also set fire to the wooden spoon while trying to extinguish the first fire. I am surprised we didn’t set fire to the whole restaurant. Or that they didn’t kick us out. It was quite an adventure!
