I went for brunch with a friend to Las Bandidas. I had never heard of it before, but I was glad my friend brought me here. The restaurant is located on Commercial drive which is filled with good places, especially italian ones. I arrived early at 10am and the restaurant was almost empty at that time. It filled up quickly though, no worries. I was given a glass of water. Actually, I am not sure if you can say glass since the water was in a jar of jam. 🙂 Either way, it was quirky and unusual and I loved it.
The food was also excellent. I ordered the sherman’s benny. It consisted of creamy goat cheese and caramelized onions on house-made cornbread muffins topped with a sauce (we had a choice of salsa verde or roasted red tomato salsa). The bennys were served with pinto beans, roasted yams & potatoes and cabbage. It was only 11.75$ for a lot of food. It was a good proportion and the price was very fair. The potatoes & yams were nice and crusty. I liked that the sauce was so light, because bennys tend to be heavy on the stomach sometimes but this one was light. The beans were a nice addition too.
The server was very nice and he didn’t care that my friend was running late and therefore ended up hogging the table for half an hour before she arrived. He was nice and very efficient. I noticed that the food was also served very quickly.
In brief, I had a really great time at Bandidas. I enjoyed the food a lot and the price was very decent. I will definitely go back and try more stuff on the menu.
